Bulk Directory Submissions
I've seen a lot of people asking the same question over and over again; "Will I get banned for submitting my site to thousands of directories?". The answer is simple - YES, but no... It really depends on how you go about doing this.
If you submit your site to thousands of directories at once, or in a short amount of time, there is a really good chance you will get banned by the search engines. You can avoid this by submitting to a maximum of two or three hundred directories each month.
Bulk directory submissions, per day, can be a problem but they're usually not. Let's say you submit your site to one thousand directories per day. Chances are the majority of those directory owners will not be online to accept submissions at the same time. Let's be generous and say half of your submissions are accepted. That's five hundred directory submissions per day. Now let's be realistic and say half of those directories are not even active, or as active as others. That's two hundred fifty directory submissions per day.
This isn't too bad. Chances of Google picking up all of those submissions in a day are incredibly slim.
This will prevent you from getting banned from Google and other search engines for bulk directory submissions, which some robots may mistake for spamming.

Page Rank Update
I see this all the time. People asking for a PR update. Back in the day Google used to update their databases every three months. It's changed a little bit in the past two or so years and they now update their databases whenever they feel like it.
If you were hoping for an update it probably isn't going to happen anytime soon. The last update was at the end of October so the earliest PR update would probably be at the end of January or the beginning of February, IF they actually follow the guidelines that they laid out themselves.
It also seems like they're doing things a little differently these days and updating PR based on a different algorithm. I have thousands upon thousands of backlinks going to all of my sites, yet they either have PR1 or no PR at all.
We'll see how they next update goes and when it happens. Hopefully soon.

In The OES TSETNOC Lead
The people who are in the top three now are the same people who have been there since the beginning of the OES TSETNOC. It's kind of getting on my nerves that they don't drop in the SERPs at all when everyone else's rank continually fluctuates.
Congratulations to them though...
I've been looking at this wrong the whole time. I'm not doing anything wrong, they're doing everything right, and they've been at this a lot longer than I have.
Their domains have more months and years on it than mine does and that makes a big difference. I know I mentioned selling this blog just the other day but I'm going to keep it so I have an aged domain for the next OES TSETNOC.

iWebTool banned Oes Tsetnoc!
So I was checking my backlinks on iWebTool (just for fun of course. their tools are entirely inaccurate) and I noticed it said no backlinks. This immediately set off an alarm in me so I checked to see if this blog was banned in Google. Like an idiot, I used iWebTool. They said Oes Tsetnoc was banned from Google!
I checked Google myself though and noticed that it was still appearing in the search results. Good for me. I was thinking someone reported this blog, thinking we use black hat methods since we write about it often.
It's good and relieving to know that we're safe though, at least for the moment. Hopefully, iWebTool will get their shit together or I'll find better tools to help me out.

Grey Hat Methods
You've probably heard of white hat methods in the world of SEO, maybe even black hat methods. Have you ever heard of grey hat methods?
Before I even try to explain what a grey hat method is, let me explain to you what a white hat method and a black hat method is.
A white hat method is a method that you use to optimize your site for the search engines. White hat methods are the best methods around. Why? Because they are the most legitimate methods around and you are guaranteed to NOT get banned by any search engines if you stick to them.
A black hat method is the polar opposite of a white hat method. If caught using these methods, you can and will be banned from the search engines and whatever other sites or programs you're trying to fool.
With the explanations above, using your common sense, I'm sure you know what a grey hat method is. No? Well I was going to explain it anyway.
A grey hat method is a cross between a white hat method and a black hat method. If you're careful enough, you won't get caught or banned but there is always a risk. Grey hat methods are usually not too frowned upon. There is little risk because all you're really doing is giving white hat methods little tweaks.
If you're running AdSense on your website, I recommend just sticking to white hat methods. Using black hat methods, or even grey hat methods, will not only get your site banned from the search engines, you could also lose your AdSense account.
I know you probably think that it doesn't really matter, there are other programs just like AdSense out there, but you're wrong. Those other sites don't offer you revenue potential as big as AdSense does.

Spamdex the Oes Tsetnoc?
Spamdexing is also known as black hat SEO. It's something that no one should do, but a lot of webmasters do it to make their search engine rank higher.
Spamdexing consists of submitting your links to link farms, spinning your articles and keyword stuffing, among other things.
So I ask, should I spamdex this Oes Tsetnoc blog? I know there's a high risk in getting banned from the search engines altogether, but there is only a couple of weeks left in the Oes Tsetnoc and the chances of me getting caught in such a short amount of time are slim. (Unless a contestant who sees me as competition rats me out...)
Chances are I won't resort to such tactics but I'll say this, if I got caught and placed in the Oes Tsetnoc, it would be worth the ban.

Oes Tsetnoc Mission: Impossible
The Oes Tsetnoc is coming to an end in less than two weeks from now. I have yet to crack the top ten in the last two months. I'm one hundred percent sure that I will not be cracking it in the next two weeks.
It'll be fun maintaining the site in the meantime, even afterwards. I'm enjoying writing about SEO. If I don't keep continuing to update this blog on a regular basis, I'll be selling it.
I think this Oes Tsetnoc blog has great potential to become a great site and I don't want to put it to waste.

Oes Tsetnoc Directory Submissions
So I've been submitting this Oes Tsetnoc blog to directories, hoping it would help me rank better in terms of backlinks but it has done next to nothing.
I've been seeing some changes in my SERPs recently though. I don't know if it has to do with the directory submissions I've been doing or if it has everything to do with all the fresh and unique content I've been updating this blog with.
Either way, I'm happy to finally be out of my slump and see this change. I just hope it keeps up.
I've tried buying directory submissions and using software to submit my site to directories for the Oes Tsetnoc, but I don't see any changes unless I submit to directories manually and doing that is extremely time consuming.

SEO Is a Waste of Time
So this was brought up on another forum that I'm a member of. Someone said they had a long debate on whether or not SEO was a waste of time or not. Have you ever thought this? Do you think that SEO is a waste of time and unnecessary?
I don't think it's unnecessary. In fact, I think the exact opposite of it. What would a website do without SEO? Where would your site be without SEO?
Your website is in search engines because it has been optimized. The last thing it is is a waste of time.
Think of all the times you've used Google [or whatever search engine you usually use]. The keyword you search for brings up thousands upon thousands of websites. These websites are appearing in the results page because they were all optimized.
Optimizing your website for the search engines are a big part of running a website. How else is your website supposed to get noticed by the right audience? You do NOT want just a bunch of traffic going to your site.
If your site is on computers but it's appearing in the search results page for the term "furniture", what good does that do you? The traffic coming into your site from searching for that term is completely irrelevant and these visitors will not help you gain revenue, not to mention your bounce rate will be REALLY high.
In short, I think SEO is absolutely necessary. How about you?

Choosing Your Keywords
A lot of people have a hard time figuring out what keywords to optimize their sites for. This problem arises mostly with people new to building and marketing websites, or people new to SEO (search engine optimization).
One common mistake that people make is they make their keyword the same as their domain name and their site is optimized for that. This is not smart at all.
What you need to ask yourself when figuring out what keywords to use is, "What will people be searching for?". A lot of people who have domain.com will promote their site as "domain.com" or "Domain".
First thing's first, remove the .com. Next thing to do is go to Google Trends and see what people are searching for. This is completely optional but it helps in getting traffic to your site. SERP Difference in .com and .net Domains
A lot of people have asked this question many times. "Does a .com domain do better in the search engines than a .net domain, or any other extension?"
Don't worry if you didn't get the .com domain of your choice and you had to settle for another extension. Don't worry if you thought you're going to have to do extra work to rank better than the .com version of your domain name. No matter what you've read, there is no difference.
All extensions are ranked in Google [and other search engines] and all extensions are a part of the search engine's algorithm.
A domain's extension will not penalize you in search engine ranks.
With all of that being said, I'm really glad. Now I don't have to worry about having to do extra work for the Oes Tsetnoc.

Oes Tsetnoc Sandboxed?
I don't think so. What is sandbox? It's pretty much just the time period that competitive keywords must wait in order to achieve results on Google.
Even if "oes tsetnoc" was Google sandboxed, it wouldn't effect the entire site. Google Sandbox is keyword related only. What does this mean? Let's say you made a site about ABC and put it on XYZ.com. You'll rank well for XYZ but you'll have to wait to achieve those dream results for ABC.

Oes Tsetnoc Update
Though this is my first SEO contest ever, I'm doing alright in the rankings. I was recently stuck in the 21st position but climbed to the 17th position after a little SEO work was done.
I've been asking people on forums for a little SEO advice and they've been telling me things I already and have already done. Still, good to know I've been doing the right things so far. Okay, maybe I've overdone it on the keywords, but I will be cutting back on that.
I wish I found out about this SEO contest a little sooner, maybe then I could have gotten a TLD instead of a Blogger domain. I'm not comlaining though. I love Blogger. Still, would have been much better for SERPs.
Well, I'll keep updating all of you. Thanks and keep checking back.

Optimizing Blogger for The Oes Tsetnoc
I wish there was more I could do to optimize this blog for the Oes Tsetnoc.
I've done everything that I can do with blogger though. It's not as flexible as I hoped it would be.

Well, I just read that the third site in the Oes Tsetnoc also got hacked.

Why is Google increasing the search engine ranks of Oes Tsetnoc sites that are all in broken English?

One of the people leading in the Oes Tsetnoc came up with a really stupid strategy.
I was browsing his site and he mentioned how he is not planning on link building. If you do this, how exactly do you plan on getting your site out there?
More exposure equals more visitors, which will lead to an increase in SERPs.

This is my first oes tsetnoc so I've been kind of struggling to find out what I should do to maintain my rank in Google for the search term "oes tsetnoc".

1 month - oes tsetnoc
We recently passed the 1 month mark of the oes tsetnoc.
A few oes tsetnoc changes have been made along the way. These changes were needed and I must say, I love them.
Are you a contestant in the oes tsetnoc?

Falling - oes tsetnoc
So I've been falling in the ranks again. This oes tsetnoc is no joke. I need to make a new post at least twice a day to maintain a good rank. It's tiring.
I keep going for the Christmas money though. I don't care if I get 1st, 2nd or 3rd. As long as I place I'll be fine.

We are now number 11 in Google!
Promojunkie uses a string that will give results regardless of what country you're from. This benefits us all.
I'm soon to be back on their results page. They only show top 10 and hopefully by tomorrow I'll be at number 10 [at least] for "oes tsetnoc".

Increasing Results - oes tsetnoc
So I just checked the results for the oes tsetnoc.
Seems like I'm doing much better.
Though they only show the top 10 people in Google showing up for "oes tsetnoc", I'm still pretty high and almost listed in the top 10...sort of.
Right now, this site is the 23rd listed in Google for the term "oes tsetnoc".
No time to give up yet, not while I'm doing this well anyway.
We'll see how this thing goes.

Changes - oes tsetnoc
There have been a couple of changes to the oes tsetnoc.
Nothing major, just a couple of things worth mentioning for those of you who are participating in the oes tsetnoc.
The results page now only shows 4 results. There are talks to only show the top 10 results in Google on the oes tsetnoc results page.
Another change that is in talks is that contestants will be able to verify whether their site was accepted into the oes tsetnoc or not.
Just keep checking the site to see when these changes are implemented.

There seems to be a lot of waiting involved with the oes tsetnoc.

I just keep falling in the oes tsetnoc.
The oes tsetnoc results page finally updated today and I went from 2 to 7 to 9 to 13 to 30 to 34!
I hate this damned contest.

Bored with the oes tsetnoc
The oes tsetnoc has already bored me. haha I'm going to try to keep making updates but really, I've pretty much ran out of things to write about related to the oes tsetnoc.
There's not much you can do when the results page for the oes tsetnoc don't update for days on end and no matter what you do Google doesn't want to index your homepage.
I'll keep trying though. Hopefully the oes tsetnoc results page will update. I'd like to see where I'm at. I've been stuck at 30 out of 61.

So not too long ago I was saying how time's were changing for me in the oes tsetnoc. They're still changing but this time it's for the worst.

Day 10 - oes tsetnoc
We're on day 10 of the oes tsetnoc and it's probably the worst day for me so far.
I'm in the 21st spot! Can you believe this crap? You ignore your site for one day and it all goes to hell.

Week 1 - oes tsetnoc
The first week of the oes tsetnoc has just gone by. I have to say, this has been a really good experience so far.
I know that there are many more weeks to come but for the very first week in my very first oes tsetnoc, it was good.
I was really surprised with my rankings. I placed second for the first couple of days, but then I gradually slipped into the thirteenth spot.
We'll see how week 2 goes for me in the oes tsetnoc.

Day 6 - oes tsetnoc
Today is the 6th day of the oes tsetnoc.
I've been doing pretty good until today. I'm still ranked, just the lowest I've ranked since starting. It seems like I'm continuously dropping in rank.
Right now I'm in 9th place. 9th place won't cut it though. There are only 3 prizes in the oes tsetnoc so I'm going to have to pull magic beans out of my ass or something and soon.

So far I'm doing pretty well in the oes tsetnoc seo contest.
I entered last night and before I went to bed, just for kicks, I checked the rankings to see if my name would actually show up and I saw that I'm second place! I checked back a few times today[yes, I'm obsesses] and I'm still in second place.
Hopefully I'll get up to first place by December. I really hope I don't get bored of this contest or forget about it. It's a nice prize. $1,000 USD just to rank number one in Google for "oes tsetnoc".
